NEW YORK (Nov. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Fixed income Analysts Society (FIASI), Fordham University’s Center for Research in Contemporary Finance and O’Shea Center for Credit Analysis and Investment invite research applications for the 2nd Annual FIASI–Gabelli School Student Research Competition. This competition focuses on innovative investments and environmental, social and governance (ESG). Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit original research on sustainable finance in fixed income markets or related topics. This competition will accept research papers that apply ESG principles in other markets, but not necessarily in fixed income. The competition’s purpose is to increase awareness of ESG-based principles for investing in fixed income markets, address the challenges and opportunities associated with ESG integration in fixed income, promote further development of ESG design and corporate innovation, and to encourage and facilitate conversations between students, academics, and practitioners.
The competition will recognize eight research papers in 2022. Each winning submission will receive a $5,000 award and recognition at the annual FIASI ESG In Fixed Income conference, which is scheduled for April 21st 2022 and April 22nd 2022 (Earth Day 2022). The recipients will receive the payments directly. The grant does not preclude publication of the research in other journals. The recipients must agree to acknowledge the grant in all publications and presentations and to present the research at a mutually acceptable date after the FIASI conference. Last April, three winners of the competition were announced. Each received a monetary award of $2,000 and each winner was invited to present their research papers in a virtual event hosted by FIASI/Fordham.
The Competition has been expanded to include schools offering business programs in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Students from these regions are welcome to submit research to the competition. Students can submit their research in the form of a PhD. Theses, Masters theses and Honors program theses are all examples of student submissions. Students and faculty are welcome to co-author research papers. Submissions from undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students will all be evaluated in separate pools. Awards will be selected from these pools independently.
All submissions should contain the following:
A cover page with title and names of authors, addresses, and affiliation.
A maximum of 150 words for an abstract
A research paper
A copy of each researcher’s resume.
The winners will be selected by a review committee from all submitted proposals. The committee will seek input from both FIASI colleagues and the Gabelli School of Business Finance area when making its selections. The review committee will include members from both the academic community and the fixed income sector.
Research papers will be evaluated on the basis of their originality and relevance, as well as the qualitative or quantitative aspects of the research method.
All applicants should submit their proposals by March 18, 2022 to Ms. Pamela Huang at [email protected] Decisions will be made by or around April 15, 2022.
Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business and the Fixed Income Analysts Society co-fund the competition.
Lauren Nauser, Executive director, FIASI, can be reached at [email protected] with any additional questions or concerns.
1 Both part-time and full-time students can submit their research. The student should present their own analysis and include a disclaimer that the research does not have any connection to or derives its content from a former or current employer.
