NEW YORK—-(BUSINESS WIRE).-KBRA gives an overview of the provisions in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and details its funding for environmental and social issues. The report also highlights the environmental- and social policies contained within the Build Back Better Act (BBB), though its passage is currently uncertain. The $1.2 trillion package will represent the largest federal investment in infrastructure projects for decades. It will focus on improvements in roads, bridges, public transport, and water systems. The IIJA will also fund and expand climate mitigation, environmental justice, and social equity programs as the world moves towards a low-carbon economy. While the IIJA does not reduce the country’s carbon emissions, President Biden’s Build Back Better plan (BBB), which was passed by the U.S. House, but not the Senate, contains a substantial amount dedicated to climate mitigation, resiliency, and funding for social programs, and environmental justice. BBB, when paired with the IIJA would be an important piece legislation to help the U.S. achieve the Paris Agreement goals and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
