SAN MATEO (Calif.), Sept. 22, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Enterprise Strategy Group (Axis Security) and industry analyst firm Enterprise Strategy Group(ESG) today released new quantitative survey research that surveyed more than 600 cybersecurity, networking and IT professionals in North America and Europe who are focused on their Secure Access Service Edge initiatives (SASE). Nearly half (48%) of those surveyed viewed SASE as a security-first program, while 31% viewed it as a network first strategy. SASE adoption is most commonly led by senior IT leaders. Only 37% have started to implement a plan. Early SASE adopters indicated that ZTNA was a starting point. This is likely due to the fact SASE supports remote workers and hybrid work. As a result, 79% of SASE adopters have increased their efforts to adopt SASE as a result. 71% of companies intend to replace their VPN with ZTNA. ESG found that supporting business ecosystem partners was crucial due to the fact that one out of three users who require access to resources is a third party (34%). SASE requires a multi-vendor approach. This is a reality check for single-vendor promises that many IT leaders were looking forward to. Many respondents also indicated that they would likely switch security vendors. This is likely due to the realization that traditional network security vendors (SWG Firewalls, Sandboxing, Sandboxing) and early entrants in the ZTNA/CASB space were lacking key capabilities that businesses require. SASE is a huge idea. It combines security services and networking to create a cloud-delivered service model. This is a multi-year project. Enterprises need a flexible framework that guides adoption. This is because most organizations won’t adopt a single vendor approach to consolidating tens or more tools in a matter of hours. John Grady, Senior Analyst at ESG, stated that instead of consolidating, many people anticipate adding SASE vendors over the course of time. SASE adoption is expected to take at least one calendar year. However, 70% of IT leaders believe there will be significant business benefits if they embrace SASE. ESG found that SASE implementations have had a variety benefits, including fewer security incidents, lower costs, and less downtime. According to ESG, 85% of respondents claimed at least three benefits from SASE implementation. More than half (55%) of respondents who had started SASE initiatives stated that their organization had a dedicated SASE budget. 80% also expect SASE spending to increase in the future. The 2021 SASE Trends survey provides insight into the business drivers driving SASE adoption, and how decision-makers prioritize hybrid work. The survey examines how SASE strategies have improved security, network performance, and reduced costs. The survey also provides insight into the planning, budgeting and purchasing dynamics of different IT stakeholders. Get your copy here.
