Sept 30, 2017 (Reuters) – A group consisting of global private equity firms and pensions fund managers with more than $4 trillion in assets announced on Thursday that they will standardize reporting on ESG metrics. This will allow investors to quickly sort through disparate data from companies and scores from ESG rating agencies. Marcie Frost, chief executive of CalPERS, the largest U.S. pension fund, said that it was difficult to measure the impact of private equity portfolios due to the many definitions and frameworks used. The data will be compiled by Boston Consulting Group, which is a consulting firm. The group will meet annually to review the data and improve on the initial metrics. Megan Starr from Carlyle’s global head for impact said that “we were all marching to the same goals in different directions.” “This is performance data from the companies and it’s not fundamentally comparable with anything else in the market. “The group stated that it would be open to any private equity firm or investor who wishes to join and contribute.
